The 2025 Kyabazinga 7s tournament concluded spectacularly on Sunday, September 7th, with Walukuba RFC and Nile Rapids RFC emerging as champions in the Men’s and Women’s categories after two days of electrifying rugby at a Bugembe Stadium in Jinja.
From the very first matches on Saturday, 6th September 2025, the tournament was defined by explosive and fast-paced action. The Buffaloes immediately laid down a marker with a commanding 41-0 victory against the Soroti Rangers, signalling their intent. Meanwhile, established giants like KOBS stated their intentions as well with a firm 24:5 against the Mongers. Heathens kicked the day off with an astounding 31:5 against the Eagles, delivering powerful performances from the outset. Yet, the thrilling unpredictability of rugby sevens quickly took centre stage, as underdogs Njeru Hurricanes announced their arrival with a stunning 15-12 upset over the Rhinos in the second round.
The weekend was filled with standout performances and results. In the Bronze Medal match, the Pirates claimed bronze with a commanding 22-0 victory over the KOBS, while the She Wolves secured bronze in the women’s category with a narrow 15-12 win over the Avengers.
Beyond the main cup, the action was relentless. The Rhinos claimed the Men’s Challenge Trophy, defeating the Mongers 14-5 in a fiery final. In the 5th-place playoff, the Hippos edged out the Buffaloes 10-7 in a match that demonstrated the narrow margins that defined the tournament.
The Women’s final provided its own drama as Nile Rapids faced the Thunderbirds. In a defensive masterclass, Nile Rapids shut down powerful Thunderbirds attacks to claim a 5-0 victory and the championship.
