2026 Uganda Rugby Premiership Final

The stage is set for a thrilling conclusion to the 2026 Uganda Rugby Premiership as defending champions Stanbic Black Pirates take on Toyota Buffaloes in a Grand Final at Kings Park Arena, Bweyogerere tomorrow, June 27th 2026. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM EAT.

The day will begin with an exciting curtain-raiser as the Uganda U20 Select side faces the Uganda U23 Select XV at 1:30 PM EAT, giving fans a glimpse of the country’s next generation of rugby talent before the main event.

Pirates enter the final with history within reach. The Sea Robbers are bidding to become the first club under the current playoff format to successfully defend the Uganda Rugby Premiership title. Having reached every playoff final since the format changed in 2024, Pirates fell to Heathens in the inaugural final before lifting the trophy in 2025. Now they have the opportunity to retain the championship for the first time in the club’s history.

Their route to the final was anything but straightforward. Pirates defeated Platinum Credit Heathens 36-30 on aggregate in a fiercely contested semifinal. A commanding 15-3 first-leg victory at Kyadondo proved decisive despite a spirited 27-21 defeat in the return leg at Kings Park. Notably, Heathens remain the only side to have beaten Pirates in the Premiership this season.

Toyota Buffaloes, meanwhile, have enjoyed a remarkable campaign. They secured their place in the final with a convincing 48-23 aggregate victory over Makerere Impis, winning 20-11 away before completing the job with a 28-12 triumph at Kyadondo. The result booked Buffaloes’ first Premiership final appearance since 2013.

For Buffaloes, this final represents a chance to make history. The club has never won the Uganda Rugby Premiership, and their only previous appearance in the final ended in defeat to Heathens. Interestingly, current head coach Charles Onen was the team’s scrumhalf in that 2013 side and now has the opportunity to guide Buffaloes to their first-ever league title from the touchline.

The two finalists met once during the regular season, with Pirates edging Buffaloes 23-17 at Kyadondo in February. While Pirates have relied on their experience in big matches, Buffaloes have grown stronger throughout the season, finishing third in the regular standings before producing an unbeaten playoff run to reach the championship match.

Saturday’s final promises a fascinating clash between experience and ambition. Pirates are chasing another chapter in their growing legacy, while Buffaloes are seeking to write the greatest story in the club’s history by claiming their maiden Premiership crown.

With the title on the line and history waiting to be written, Kings Park Arena is set for an unforgettable afternoon of Ugandan rugby.
