Uganda Women’s Rugby Premiership Title Decider at Kyadondo

Tomorrow, Saturday 16 May, Uganda Women’s Rugby Premiership comes down to one match as Thunderbirds host Nile Rapids at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds, with kick‑off set at 4:00 PM. Nile Rapids and Thunderbirds are currently levelled with 35 Points on the Women’s Table Standings, their last fixture tomorrow will decide the outright Premiership Champion and bring the campaign to an end.

Thunderbirds are the pioneers of Ugandan women’s rugby. They won the first four premiership titles from 2017 to 2020, turning Kyadondo into a fortress and setting the early benchmark for the competition. Since the league returned after the Covid period, Black Pearls lifted the trophy for four straight seasons from 2022 to 2025, before withdrawing from the competition in 2026. That leaves Thunderbirds and Black Pearls equal on four titles, and now Thunderbirds have a chance to go one ahead with a record fifth crown.

Nile Rapids are a fast‑rising force from Jinja. In just their fourth season, they have already claimed two Uganda Cup titles and are now one win away from their first Premiership crown. They announced their arrival at the top by beating Thunderbirds 22–13 in the opening match of the 2026 Premiership, and that result has underpinned a breakout campaign that has carried them all the way to the final.

Depth will be tested. Both Thunderbirds and Nile Rapids will be without key players, some of them away on national 15s duty. Thunderbirds have shown they can remain competitive even with absences, while Nile Rapids will have to prove their strength runs deep through the squad and not just in the starting XV.

For Thunderbirds, the goal is clear: win at Kyadondo and lift the title in front of their home crowd. For Nile Rapids, victory would mean a historic first Premiership crown and the club’s biggest achievement yet.

Current Table Standings

This is more than a single match. It is a clash between one of the country’s most established women’s rugby sides and one of its fastest‑rising clubs, with the full weight of legacy, pressure and expectation on the line in one final showdown.
