Uganda Rugby 7s Promotional Series Final Stop to Crown Four Clubs across the men’s and women’s competitions. The road to the 2027 Uganda Rugby 7s Series reaches its climax this Saturday as the Uganda Rugby Promotional 7s Stop 2 takes over Kampala Rugby Grounds.

This is the final and decisive leg. The decider at Kampala Rugby Grounds writes the final chapter of the 2026 promotional pyramid, with four clubs earning their place on the main stage.
The Promotional 7s is Uganda Rugby’s structured bridge between the regional pathway and the main national series. Non core clubs battled in four regional stops, with the best sides advancing to the National Promotional Playoffs, played across two tournaments: Stop 1 at Ruga Ruga Sports Complex, Busukuma, and Stop 2 (Final Circuit) to be hosted at Kampala Rugby Grounds.
Points and performances across both legs determine the overall competition standings. At the end of Stop 2, the top two men’s teams and the top two women’s teams on the combined standings will be promoted to the 2027 Uganda Rugby 7s Series, replacing the sides relegated from the core competition (Rhinos and Mbale Elephants).
On the women’s side, the promotional pathway follows the same principle: regional qualifiers feed into the national promotional tournament, which now concludes at Kampala Rugby Grounds. The competition will be played as a round robin, with all teams facing each other once. At the end of the round robin, the top two women’s teams on the overall standings will join the men’s promoted clubs in the 2027 Uganda Rugby 7s Series.
Stop 1 in Busukuma saw Panthers lead the women’s standings, followed by Kitgum Queens, Nyondo Cheetahs and Kigezi Queens. All four arrive at Kampala Rugby Grounds knowing that the round robin decider will determine which two secure promotion to the main series.
The men’s field is split into two pools. Pool A brings together KIU Crows, Gulu City Falcons, Storm RFC and Lira Bulls. Pool B features Kakira Simbas, Makerere Impis, Fort Portal Tyrants and Buddu Bears. The pool stage sets up immediate high stake clashes, with each match carrying extra weight in the race for semifinal places and, ultimately, a top two finish on the overall tour.
POOLS

The first leg of the Promotional 7s was played at Ruga Ruga Sports Complex, Busukuma, where KIU Crows emerged champions, carrying early momentum into the final circuit. Their title run in Busukuma positioned them as favourites heading into Kampala Rugby Grounds, but with promotion now tied to the overall tour standings across both stops, the race remains wide open.
Among the notable storylines from Stop 1 were setbacks for two of the most recognised names in the field. Storm RFC suffered defeats to Kakira Simbas and KIU Crows in the Busukuma pools, results that leave them needing a near perfect campaign at Kampala Rugby Grounds to stay in the promotion hunt. Makerere Impis were beaten by Gulu City Falcons in the pool stage before falling to Kakira Simbas in the Men Main Cup Semi Final, underscoring the unforgiving nature of the promotional pathway and raising the pressure on their final circuit campaign.
Uganda Rugby’s promotional structure is designed to be ruthless and clear: perform across the tour, and you rise; fall short, and you wait another season. This Saturday at Kampala Rugby Grounds, that principle is distilled into one day of 7s.
