Uganda Names 28 man Squad a head of the Rugby Africa Cup 2025

The Uganda Rugby Union XVS technical team has earlier today named a 28 man team that will participate in this year’s Rugby Africa Cup, which will also be a pathway to the Men’s Rugby World Cup Australia 2027.

The 28 man squad has been named following the team’s preparation tests in Namibia against the Welwitschias, and in South Africa against the Limpopo Blue Bulls, and Pumas respectively. Upon arrival at Entebbe airport on the 28th of June, Assistant Coach Leonard Lubambula stated that “the team cohesion has been quite amazing, and the players are prepared”.

The selected team is as follows:

Forward players; Bwambale Nathan Asiimire, Edward Emiemu, Ssenteza Wycliff Santos, Ayebazibwe Blair, Kivumbi Saul, Kimbowa Collin, Maido Fahad, Emong Eliphaz, Opio Julius, Gongodyo Sydney, Wandera Brian, Oketayot Byron, Kidega Frank, Ogena Pius, Desire Ayera, Aturinda Alex.

Backline players: Conrad Wanyama Wandera, Ofoywroth Aaron, Kasito Adrian
Jadwong Joseph Aredo, Liam Walker Christopher, Ampeirwe William Nkore
Munyani Ian Arnold, Massanganzira Isaac, Wokorach Philip, Otema Ivan, Ssembusi Shakim, Timothy Kisiga.

Byron Oketayot has also been named Captain of the team, while Conrad Wanyama and Frank Kidega will be team Uganda’s vice captains.

Uganda will start its RACUG25 campaign playing against Kenya on the 8th of July 2025 at Mandela National stadium, the game is set to kickoff at 4;00pm (EAT)
