Kyadondo Rugby Academy, an age-grade development arm of Kyadondo Rugby Club in Kampala, will travel to Kenya this week for the 2026 Turi 7s. The annual invitational school rugby tournament, hosted by St Andrew’s School, Turi, brings together boys’ and girls’ teams from across the region, mainly in the U13 and U15 age groups, and has become an important platform for youth rugby development.

This will be Kyadondo’s second appearance at the tournament, and the academy is heading to Nakuru with two U15 sides. Last year, the boys reached the semi-finals while the girls went on to win the title, giving the club a strong foundation as it returns for another edition.

Coach Sadam Godfrey said the tournament gives academy players an important chance to showcase their talent, gain experience, socialise and experience different environments and cultures. He added that this year’s squads are relatively young, reflecting the academy’s development-first approach.
Only three boys from last year’s squad have made the cut, along with two girls, while several others missed out because of school commitments and candidate classes. Kyadondo has continued to place equal emphasis on education and sport, even as it builds a competitive rugby pathway.
Four of the players who won the Ndume U13 7s last weekend are among the squad travelling for Turi 7s, a reward for their standout performances and a sign of the depth coming through the academy.

Godfrey says; tournaments like Turi7s play a major role in the academy’s talent pipeline by helping identify high-potential players and creating pathways into schools, senior teams such as Buffaloes, Heathens and Thunderbirds, and eventually Uganda’s broader rugby structures.
Above all, he says, the goal is for the players to enjoy the experience. The teams are expected to travel tomorrow morning and will play on the 26th and 27th, with Kyadondo hoping for a positive showing in Kenya.
Uganda rugby wishes the young stars all the best in this tournament.
