Newly formed Tooro Rugby Club announced their arrival on the rugby scene by hosting a successful 7s tournament in Fort Portal Tourism City on 18th September 2021.
The tournament was comprised of seven clubs from Bushenyi, Kabale, Kasese, Masaka, Mbarara.
Four mens teams qualified for semi-finals after the group stages. The Tooro Lions beat KIU Crows 19-05 using strong tackling in semi 1 and Mbarara Titans outmuscled Kigezi Silverbacks 32-00 in semi 2. The third place was won by KIU who scored 21 points to 7 against the gorillas.
Mbarara Titans emerged overall winners of the circuit after outsmarting Tooro Lions 20-10 at their home ground. However Tooro have announced their arrival on the rugby scene in a big way. Emmanuel Nshekanabo of Titans was named MVP.
WURU president Stephen Kalimba, URU Upcountry Rep Vian Matsiko, Western Ug Rugby Referees Society and Western RDO Tim Iraka played a commendable job to the success of this tournament.The District Sports Officer of Kabarole concluded by assuring the participants of government support in future programs.
