The Season’s Final : New Champions Crowned at Buffalo7s 2025

The final stop of the thrilling Nile Special Uganda 7s series, the Buffaloes 7s, kicked off yesterday at the vibrant Kyadondo Rugby Grounds, concluding a long and competitive season. The teams took to the field , spurred on by waves of passionate support from fans who filled the stands with unwavering energy and team spirit. The electrifying atmosphere set the stage for a dramatic conclusion, amidst the larger backdrop of crowning the overall series champions and the Buffaloes7s champions.

The two-day event was packed with fast-paced action, surprising upsets, and standout performances. The host side, Buffaloes, started their campaign strongly on the first day with a commanding 22-0 victory over Mukono Hawks. However, their title hopes for their home tournament were dealt a significant blow in Round 2, when they fell 10-14 to a resilient KOBS side in a tightly contested match.

This result, while vital for the Buffaloes 7s tournament, had far greater implications for the entire series. The Buffaloes’ loss officially confirmed Walukuba Barbarians as the undisputed Overall Champions of the 2025 Nile Special Uganda 7s, capping off a dominant season across all seven stops. In the women’s circuit, the final tournament saw fierce competition. The Thunderbirds launched a powerful start on Day One, overwhelming the Ewes with a 43-7 victory, while the Black Pearls edged out the Avengers 14-12 in a nail-biter. As the dust settled on the series, the Thunderbirds have soared above all to be crowned the overall Women’s Champions of the 2025 Nile Special Uganda7s, a testament to their consistency and skill throughout the season.

Day 2 was filled with hard hits and shattered dreams. In the Main Cup Quarter Finals, Walukuba’s double title hopes died, overpowered 20-5 by a relentless Rhinos side. Meanwhile, the Heathens stormed past the Eagles 24-12, and the Pirates secured a commanding 26-14 victory over the Kobs to charge into the men’s semi-finals.

In the women’s Semi Finals, the Black Pearls and Nile Rapids battled their way into the Women’s final, with the Black Pearls edging a tough Walukuba Titans side 10-5 and the Niles Rapids overcame the Thunderbirds 12-5.

In the Men’s Semi Finals, the Heathens powered past the Hippos 24-14, while the Pirates dug deep to secure a hard-fought 17-12 victory over the Rhinos, setting up a thrilling final between two giants of the game.

The finals were forged in a soothing rain, with teams battling the elements as fiercely as each other. In the women’s final, the Black Pearls capped their dominant run by shutting out Nile Rapids 5-0 to claim the title. The men’s final saw the Heathens power through the conditions to defeat a determined Pirates side 17-10, crowning themselves the champions of the Buffaloes7s.

And so, as the final whistle echoed through the drizzle, the Buffaloes7s delivered a spectacular finale to the Nile Special Uganda7s series.  The celebrations belong to four worthy champions: the Buffaloes7s Winners, namely, the Heathens and Black Pearls, and the overall season champions, namely, Walukuba Barbarians and Thunderbirds. And as the ultimate victors of the series, both Walukuba Barbarians and Thunderbirds earned a top prize of UGX 7.5 million, a fitting reward for their consistency, powered by Nile Special.
