This weekend, Ugandan rugby witnesses Michael Wokorach’s final dance, as he plays his final game after an outstanding 23 year career built on discipline, leadership, and success.

Micheal Publicly announced his retirement On December 15, 2025, via a poignant X post: “It’s finally time to close the chapter.”

A stalwart at both club and national level, Wokorach has been a key figure for Platinum Credit Heathens RFC, winning multiple league, and Cup titles. Wokorach’s national team contributions define his enduring legacy. He earned 54 test caps for Uganda in the fifteens format while captaining the national side, showcasing resilience, tactical brilliance, and leadership across two decades.

He also skippered the Uganda Sevens national team during defining eras 2009-2013, a return in 2015, and solidly from 2018-2023, leading the team to continental and international success.

Micheal notably took charge in the Commonwealth Games, captaining 3 events of the 4 Ugandan Rugby has been too, (New Delhi; 2010, Gold Coast; 2018, and Birmingham; 2022). He was also the Cranes captain in 2018, and 2022 as Uganda participated in the Rugby World Cup Sevens events.

Micheal recorded more triumphs like lifting the 2022 Rugby Africa Men’s 7s Championship at Kyadondo Rugby Club, 11 league titles for his parent Club Platinum Credit Heathens, 7 Uganda Rugby Cup wins, and 6 Uganda Sevens titles, blending excellence across the playing formats. His consistency and commitment made him one of the most respected players in domestic rugby.

His retirement concludes with the testimonial match titled “Gonya’s Last Run” on December 20 at Kyadondo Rugby Club his career’s spiritual home.

It pits his Brothers in Arms teammates against a national All-Stars squad, celebrating brotherhood, sacrifice, and the respect he commands across Ugandan rugby. Michael Wokorach leaves behind a legacy of excellence, mentorship, and passion for the game.
