Rams RFC ended a decade long wait for a Uganda Rugby 7s Series trophy at the Kyadondo 7s hosted by the Platinum Credit Heathens last weekend, while Thunderbirds claimed their first title of the 2026 campaign in the women’s competition. Their breakthroughs set the tone for Stop 4 of the series, the Lawii Rwodi 7s, which takes place in Gulu City on August 29–30, 2026.
Rams RFC produced a memorable run at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds, going unbeaten throughout the stop. They defeated first stop winners Walukuba Barbarians in the quarterfinals before overcoming Rujumba champions Stanbic Black Pirates in the semifinals. Rams RFC then completed their run with a narrow 12–10 victory over Platinum Credit Heathens in the final.

The triumph delivered Rams RFC’s first Uganda Rugby 7s Series trophy since the 2016 Makerere 7s and brought an end to a 10 year title drought. It also marked a major shift in the men’s competition, with Rams RFC moving from dangerous challengers to the team to beat as the series heads north.
The Kyadondo results mean the men’s competition has produced three different winners in the opening three stops. Walukuba Barbarians claimed the opening Stop in Jinja, Stanbic Black Pirates won at Rujumba, and Rams RFC completed the latest chapter of an unpredictable campaign at Kyadondo and even topping off with the Mens MVP of the Stop Yusuf Ssemakula.
Thunderbirds also celebrated a breakthrough weekend, defeating She Wolves 24–7 in the women’s final to claim their first trophy of the 2026 campaign. The victory ended Nile Rapids’ perfect start after their wins at the Stone City and Rujumba 7s’ stops and added another layer to an increasingly competitive women’s division.

With both divisions producing new champions at Kyadondo, attention now shifts to Gulu, where teams will face a fresh challenge, limited recovery time and the pressure of maintaining momentum.

The Lawii Rwodi 7s will provide the next test of the season’s emerging hierarchy. Rams RFC will aim to prove that their Kyadondo triumph was the beginning of a new chapter, while Thunderbirds will seek to build on their first trophy of the campaign.
In Gulu, the focus shifts from breakthrough victories to consistency. Can Rams RFC maintain their momentum after ending a decade long drought, or will Toyota Buffaloes and Avengers reclaim the northern spotlight on August 29–30?
