Game Week 10 in the Women’s Premiership, and Week 9 in the Men’s competition delivered a weekend packed with dominant score lines, playoff-shaping performances, and one particularly spirited resistance that stood out amid the blowouts. While the headlines will lean toward big wins for the likes of KCB KOBs, Stanbic Black Pirates, and Thunderbirds, the fight shown by the Hippos against Heathens added an important layer of grit to the weekend’s narrative.

In the women’s competition, the title race continues to take shape with emphatic performances. Nile Rapids stormed past She Wolves with a commanding 41-12 victory, showcasing attacking precision from the outset. Avengers were equally clinical in Entebbe, shutting down Ewes 31-6 in a display built on defensive discipline and structured offense. The most dominant performance, however, came from Thunderbirds, whose 56-0 dismantling of Panthers underlined their championship credentials and sent a clear warning to the rest of the field.
The men’s premiership was no less dramatic. KOBs ran riot in a 57-17 demolition of Walukuba, while Pirates rewrote the weekend’s record books with a staggering 83-3 thrashing of Warriors—one of the most one-sided results of the season. Toyota Buffaloes maintained their position at the summit with a composed 24-7 win over Impis, relying on defensive solidity and a strong finish. Elsewhere, Rhinos edged Kakira 26-19 on the road making it the only green team on the table this weekend, and Mongers narrowly saw off Victoria Sharks 23-20 in a tense, down-to-the-wire encounter.

Yet beyond the score-lines, one of the most compelling stories unfolded in Jinja, where the Hippos stood toe-to-toe with Heathens for the first half ending 19-10 in favour of Heathens. For the first session of the game, the Hippos matched the Kampala based giants with intensity, defensive resilience, and tactical discipline, frustrating Heathens and keeping the contest finely balanced. It was only in the final stretch that Heathens’ depth and experience took over, eventually pulling away to secure a 41-17 win. The final score may suggest comfort, but the contest told a different story one of courage and growing belief from a Hippos side that refused to back down, even when Heathens deployed former players from the Hippos camp.

Buffaloes coach Charles Onen summed up the competitive edge of the weekend, pointing to resilience and squad depth as decisive factors. His side’s late surge mirrored a broader theme across the league: matches are increasingly being decided not just by starting strength, but by impact off the bench and mental toughness in closing stages.
In the bigger picture, the weekend produced an explosion of attacking rugby, with over 400 points scored across fixtures. In the women’s league, Nile Rapids, Avengers and Thunderbirds continue to set the pace, while in the men’s competition, Buffaloes remain top but face mounting pressure from a surging pack that includes Pirates, KOBs, and Heathens. As the playoff race tightens, consistency and the ability to grind out results under pressure will be the defining factor.
With momentum building and stakes rising, the next round now shifts firmly into must-win territory.
