In the Women’s Premiership, 12 action-packed game weeks have been played so far with squads demonstrating resilience and tactical brilliance, pushing the boundaries of women’s rugby in Uganda.
“It has been a grueling campaign for the teams, 11 weekends of intense activity. We increased the number of players per squad from 60 last season to 72 now, to allow for the player welfare discussion that can give the teams more players to work with over the season. Some teams have used their full complements while some have failed to get the exact number of players to use for that period. We’re happy that they have managed to expose some of the players to elite rugby. Some players have come into the fold and been able to compete at that level. We’ve had some teams starting well, and then along the way struggling to finish. But at least they have been honest enough to try and play the fixtures so we’re happy with the depth of the players in the teams. By and large, it has been a very good campaign. The coaches of the national teams have been able to watch the teams and assess and see which new players, and existing players, can take us forward. Now we head into the playoffs, which starts immediately next weekend. We thank you for supporting us through the season, supporting the teams, and the sport in general. Thank you very much” Uganda Rugby Chief Technical Officer, Mr. Ramsey Olinga.
