Kampala, Uganda – Wednesday, 23 July 2026. Uganda Rugby today launched the 2026 Uganda Rugby 7s Series, the national rugby sevens championship that begins this weekend with the Stone City 7s at Ruck Yard Sports Club (hosted by Hippos RFC) and runs through September.

The 2026 season carries the theme “Tukikube. Every Stop.” a Luganda rallying chant that embodies hard work, smart hustle, entertainment and collective achievement. Paired with “Every Stop,” the theme reflects the Series’ expanded footprint: six stops across the country, each requiring the same level of commitment from hosts, players, and fans.

Competition format and venues

The Series features 12 core men’s teams and 8 core women’s teams competing across six stops:

• • Stone City 7s — Ruck Yard Sports Club (July 24-25, 2026)
  • Rujumba 7s — King’s Park Arena (August 01-02, 2026)
  • Kyadondo 7s — Kyadondo Rugby Grounds (August 22-23, 2026)
  • Lawirwodi 7s — Gulu (August 29-30, 2026)
  • Kyabazinga 7s — Bugembe (September 12-13, 2026)
  • Kabaka Coronation 7s (Grand Finale) — Wankulukuku, staged in partnership with the Buganda Kingdom.

Structural changes and pathway

• The women’s core competition has expanded from six to eight teams.
• Invitational sides have been removed. In their place, Uganda Rugby launched the Uganda Rugby 7s Pathway Series. A nationwide regional competition in which each of the four regions hosts four stops and two Promotional Series follow the regional rounds.
• At season’s end, the bottom two men’s and bottom two women’s teams in the national Series will be relegated and replaced by the top two teams from the Promotional Series.

Broadcast and coverage

• Every stop of the 2026 Series will be broadcast live on NBS Sport, ensuring nationwide coverage for fans.

“This season is a statement of intent. Rugby in Uganda cannot be told as a Kampala story alone. With the Uganda Rugby 7s Pathway Series expanding competitive rugby in all four regions, and with the introduction of the Lawirwodi 7s, we are investing directly in structures and opportunities outside the capital,” said Isaac Lutwama Nsubuga, Chief Executive Officer, Uganda Rugby.
