Nile Special Uganda 7s Series, Second Act. Gulu 7s

The 2025 Nile Special Uganda Rugby 7s Series kicked off officially on Saturday, 2nd August 2025 at Kyadondo with the Kabaka Coronation 7s Cup in the central region. The Two day event saw Walukuba Barbarians reign victorious in a beautiful spectacle of intrigue against the Platinum Credit Heathens. Thunderbirds secured the trophy on the women’s side, out powering the Walukuba Titans who put on quite a show in their first ever National 7s Series.

Northern Uganda is the next stop, and Gulu City will host the “Gulu 7’s”, the second phase of the prestigious 2025 Nile Special Uganda Rugby 7s Series, featuring regional and invitational clubs from across the country such as Black Arrows, Lira Big Boys, Lira Bulls, and Kitgum Lions, who join the series as non-core teams from the Northern Region.

Gulu 7’s will be happening this weekend 9th–10th August 2025 at Pece War Memorial Stadium. Organizers of the Nile Special Rugby 7’s earlier announced the Draws, Pools and fixtures for both women’s, and men’s teams ahead of the Stop.

In the women’s category, Pool A will feature Thunderbirds, Avengers, Nile Rapids, and Kitgum Queens, while Pool B will have Walukuba Titans, She Wolves, Black Pearls, and Gulu Sprinters.

The men’s competition consists; Pool A includes Walukuba, Pirates, Falcons, and Arrows. Pool B consists of Heathens, Kobs, Eagles, and Big Boys, whereas Pool C will feature Buffaloes, Mongers, Hippos, and Lira Bulls. Pool D is made up of Rhinos, Rams, Elgon Wolves, and Kitgum Lions.

Rugby action will start on Saturday morning with Round 1 of the men’s fixtures. Rams will play against Elgon Wolves at 07:30AM followed by women’s fixture kicking off with She Wolves taking on Black Pearls at 10:10AM.

With Gulu now hosting the second act, fans can expect high-paced rugby, a glimpse at rising regional rugby, and a showcase of Uganda’s growing rugby culture and lifestyle. As teams clash for glory in the North, the race to top the Nile Special Uganda Sevens Series is truly on!

More about the Nile Special Uganda 7s Series

The Nile Special Uganda Rugby 7s Series is a national tournament featuring all corners of Uganda: central Uganda, eastern Uganda, northern Uganda, and western Uganda.  The series comprises of seven legs, each known as a ‘7s Stop’. Each stop crowns a champion in both men’s and women’s categories, and ultimately, the overall series winner is decided based on collected series points across all seven tournaments.

Defending series champions Heathens RFC (men) and Avengers (women) will look to defend their title and claim further points as the title race intensifies. Next stops after Gulu are Rujumba 7s, Entebbe 7s, Kyabazinga 7s, Kabale 7s, and Buffaloes 7s.
