Uganda Schools Rugby Select is set to represent the country at the 2025 World Schools Festival in Abu Dhabi, following an official flag-off attended by Uganda Rugby Union (URU) leaders, parents, and key stakeholders. Uganda Schools Rugby Association chairman, Dickson Okello, and URU executives highlighted the tournament as a vital platform for exposing young Ugandan talent to top-tier international competition, more than a decade since Uganda last featured on the global schools stage.
Officials shared gratitude to parents for their support and confidence in the players, while URU Vice President Technical, Eric Butime, urged the squad to use the experience as a stepping stone toward future national team, and Rugby World Cup ambitions. Representing the players, vice captain Arthur Lukoda pledged that the team would compete with discipline and pride while in Abu Dhabi.

The traveling delegation includes technical staff led by head coach Brian Makalama, and team manager Dennis Etuket, alongside a 31 man squad drawn from Kings College Budo (KCB), Makerere College School (MACOS), Mbarara High School, Namilyango College, Nyakasura School, SMACK, and Greenhill Academy. With strong institutional backing and a well-prepared squad, Uganda Schools Rugby Select heads to Abu Dhabi ready to compete, gain invaluable experience, and proudly fly the national flag. The team will compete in Pool B together with internationally recognised schoolboy rugby playing schools like Paul Roos II in South Africa, Saint Kentigern; New Zealand, and the Junior Sables from Zimbabwe. The pool presents a unique opportunity for athletes, and management to challenge themselves on a global stage with players in the same age bracket, and hopes for sharper Ugandan Rugby future.

Tuesday 16th December / Saint Kentigern vs USRA Select XV
Thursday 18th December / Paul Roos II VS USRA Select XV
