The Kyabazinga 7s has rapidly become a premier event in Ugandan rugby, born from a strong partnership between the Busoga Kingdom, and the local sports community.
Following its electrifying debut in 2022 at Bugembe Stadium, its place on the National 7s Series calendar was immediately secured. The event is strategically timed for September to coincide with the Coronation anniversary of the Kyabazinga. The competition this year serves as the official kickoff to the festive season within the proud kingdom.
The Walukuba Barbarians have the home-field advantage yet again this year as hosts of the Kyabazinga 7s, a major boost to their campaign for the National 7s title.
“Our alliance with the Kingdom is truly one in a million,” said Simon Peter Waisswa, chairman of Walukuba Rugby. “We benefit from their guidance and financial backing, plus the invaluable access to their network of partners. We are proud to contribute to the Coronation festivities through the spirit of rugby.”
For the hometown Walukuba team, the ambition is clear: victory is the only acceptable outcome. Waisswa emphasized that the Kyabazinga 7s was their primary goal for the national series, instilling in his players a determination to defend their home turf.
The memory of last year’s Kyabazinga 7s remains a powerful motivator. The Walukuba Barbarians came agonizingly close to victory, only to be denied in a sudden-death overtime by the Platinum Credit Heathens. “Almost doesn’t count,” Waisswa noted. “But that experience has forged a hungrier, more determined squad.”
As announced by the Kyabazinga of Busoga on the social media platform, X , KingNadiopeIV said, “the action-packed weekend is set for September 6th-7th, 2025, at the renowned Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe. The event promises an electric atmosphere, with rugged athletes and determined teams preparing to leave everything on the field for glory and honor.”
The tournament also serves as a thrilling kick off to the wider celebrations marking the 11th Coronation Anniversary of the Kyabazinga, ensuring a festive period filled with adrenaline, pride, and unforgettable rugby in the heart of Jinja!
