Community Leaders Unite Against Gender Based Violence Following Entebbe Workshop led by Swans Rugby Club, Uganda Rugby Union and Uganda Olympic Committee.

Uganda Rugby Union yet again joined forces with Swans Sports Club to empower local leaders in the fight against gender based violence. A recent three day capacity building workshop in Entebbe has sparked renewed commitment from community figures to drive change.

Workshop Highlights
The event equipped over 50 participants, including village chiefs, religious leaders, and youth representatives, with practical tools to identify, prevent, and respond to GBV. Sessions covered legal frameworks, survivor support, and strategies for community sensitization, fostering a unified front against this pervasive issue. URU’s involvement underscores its broader mission to use sport as a platform for social good, aligning with initiatives like the G.I.R.L.S Against GBV project that reaches thousands of youth through rugby.

Key Commitments
Attendees pledged immediate actions such as establishing local reporting mechanisms, conducting awareness drives in schools and markets, and engaging men and boys as allies. One leader emphasized, “Rugby teaches resilience and respect values we must apply to protect our families.” This builds on URU’s track record of leveraging sports to promote gender equality and safer communities.

URU’s Role in Social Impact
Through partnerships with the Uganda Olympic Committee, and Swans Sports Club, URU continues to expand its anti GBV efforts across Wakiso, and beyond. These programs not only tackle violence but also build leadership skills in young people, creating lasting ripple effects. The Entebbe workshop marks a vital step in scaling community driven solutions against GBV nationwide.
